Kombo East are the newest community to inscribe their name in the array of Winners of Gambia Football Federation Zonal Football Championships (Super Nawettan) tournament 2019.

At the end of their third year in the tournament, the Eastern Kombo Zone takes pride in a performance worthy to celebrate after only one game lose and crowning the rest with wins to earn them this far.

They came off to face Sere Kunda West in the Final on Saturday 30th November 2019 following their win over familiar opponents Brikama in the Semi Final and the two team’s third meeting during the 2019 calendar year all engagements been wins for Kombo East.

At the weekend final held at a full Independence Stadium in Bakau, Kombo East and Sere Kunda West finished the first half on a barren draw despite West gaining more of finished chances that could have put them in front.

Kombo East resumed on the terrain with renewed vigor and kept to their nerves as they threatened West with their marauding intent mainly at the left side of the area found to be the fragile end.

So, it was until Modou Lamin  Kujabi to have scored the goal that separated the two sides and earned Kombo East the eventual winner denying West another chance to lift the Zonal trophy.

In the 3rd and 4th Place Play Off, Brikama came from behind to wallop over a disappointing Manjai side 3-1 in another final played earlier at 3pm. Papis Nayssi scored a brace and Lamin Badjie with the finisher for Brikama while Manjai were consoled with Modou Ceesay’s only goal that deny the 2016 Champions.

Kombo East as Champions went home with a giant trophy and D200,000, Runners Up Sere Kunda West with D100,000:00 while Brikama came on as 3rd Place Winners with D50,000:00 and Manjai wit D25,000:00 as forth Place. All awards and prize monies

Other individual award winners are Lamin Jarju of Manjai as Most Outsnading Player of the tournament, Bubacarr Camara of Kombo East as Best Goal Keeper, Papis Nyassi of Brikama as Leading Goal Scorer with 8 goals, while Kombo Central 2 were voted the Zoen wit the best fan base and Banjul as most discipline team.

The finals were attended by the President of the GFF Lamin Kaba Bajo and Executive Committee members, Mr Ebrima Barry and Senior management of Africell, DPS Mr Sutay Jawo of the Ministry if Youth and Sports and football fans and followers of the Zonal Championships.
