Position HEAD COACH FOR THE GAMBIA SENIOR NATIONAL TEAM
Reports To General Secretary and Technical & Development Committee

Following the approval by the Ministry of Youth & Sports, The Gambia is seeking applications for the position of the Head Coach of the Senior Men’s National Team from 2024 to 2026

Purpose:

To assist with the planning, implementation and continuous improvement of the programs for the Gambia Senior Men’s National Team

Responsibilities Specific to the Role:

  • Candidate’s primary focus is to prepare the Senior National Team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Campaign and qualification of the CAF African Cup of Nations 2025
  • Candidates will be responsible for the identification, selection and monitoring of players, including professional players by ensuring that when called into the national team environment they are fit and can actively participate.
  • Candidates shall draw up a training programme for the Senior Men’s National Team;
  • Candidates shall plan and evaluate all coaching sessions in collaboration with the coaching staff;
  • Candidates shall supervise the preparation for all match kit and equipment necessary for the technical program;
  • Candidates must have the mental strength to withstand expectations, show the drive to succeed and meet up deadlines in a continually evolving environment;
  • Develop, implement and review any strategic planning processes, supervise and/or co-ordinate all squad presentations;
  • Determine and co-ordinate the nature and extent of information given to players relating to technical matters prior, during and following each game or training session;
  • Coordinate and conduct feedback to clubs at the conclusion of each quarterly squad cycle;
  • Candidates must have a good command of both written and spoken English;
  • Preference will be given to candidates with international competitions experience, particularly within African football;
  • To submit reports after every engagement to the Technical and Development Committee and make yourself available when required.

  • Renowned, trusted, calm, decisive and objective, especially under pressure
  • Capable of taking a prominent role in the building of a high performing team, show willingness to be accountable and measured on performance
  • Demonstrate ability to receive and give constructive feedback to enhance performance and reporting against set key performance indicators
  • A team player and prepared to work with a local coaching team;

Communication and Personal Skills

  • International influence in moving National Team Structures
  • Demonstrate ability in written and oral presentation skills
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationship with both external and internal stakeholders
  • Understand and be able to work in a team environment, energetic, and highly motivated

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of a CAF “A” / UEFA “A” or Pro License or equivalent
  • At least 5 to 10 years international football coaching experience
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching a high-performing football team
  • To have good and practical knowledge of African football as well as experience
  • Understanding and experience of elite player development
  • To have a great capacity to adopt and an aptitude for teamwork
  • Knowledgeable, understanding and experience in the use of technical analysis in order to improve team performance
  • Knowledge and experience of working with CAF or in the international arena
