The President of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF), Mr. Lamin Kaba Bajo, has challenged presidents of the regional football associations (RFA) to work very hard in championing the course of women’s football in the country.

President Bajo made these remarks during the second and final day of the GFF’s two-day Executive Committee/Staff retreat organised by the leadership of the Federation at the Football Hotel in Old Yundum.

The aim of the retreat is to take a step back from the day-to-day work of the Federation and to think critically on how to rejuvenate the organisation, get everyone committed to a unified purpose, set goals for the upcoming year, and build bonds between the executive and the secretariat staff. It is also meant to talk about our work, achievements, challenges and chatter a way forward for the development of football in The Gambia.

In response to a presentation of a regional case study by the President of the West Coast Regional Football Association Mr Abdou Karim Sey, Mr. Bajo emphasised the need for the regions to promote women’s football in their regions. He highlighted that measures should be taken to ensure that women’s leagues at the regions are timely and consistently playing with full support and concentration. He stated that his administration is very passionate about women’s football, thus translating into its support to the national women’s league and the regions, and therefore, urged all regions to take it seriously without delay.

Addressing the issue of the challenges faced by regions, the First Vice President, Mr. Bakary K. Jammeh reiterated that there is a plan on the way to support the transportation of regional women’s league club players to and from their various games and regions as it exist at the national level.

As part of the retreat, there were presentations by the Executive Committee members on the general overview of the Executive and staff roles as well as their responsibilities. The various Departments and Unit Heads also did presentations on their department’s roles and responsibilities, make critical analysis of their department’s challenges, achievements and the way forward.
