The Gambia U-17 (Baby Scorpions) Head Coach Abdoulie Bojang has promised to produce an immortal team that will bring joy and celebration to the faces of Gambian football lovers.

The former Scorpions midfielder made these remarks while speaking in an exclusive interview with www.gambiaff.org during his teams’ Saturday training session at the National Technical Training Center (NTTC) in Yundum.

Coach Bojang expressed his impressions with the work so far achieved and the support from his assistants. “We intend to organise weekly test matches during the course of our training. We train from Monday to Thursday and Friday becomes a test match day to assess them and we still need to trim the large number of playing staff,” he explained.

Asked about his opinion on the forthcoming Principals Cup, a schools’ football competition organised by The Gambia Football Federation that starts with a national championship and a finals stage sponsored by GTBank, Bojang reiterated that it is timely. He noted that this will even make their work easier as they will also follow their players representing their various schools as well and get to scout some new talents too. “The Principal’s Cup will help us greatly to have more additions to what is already available.”

He said the competition has even prompted them to change their training schedule. “Now with the Principal’s Cup, we will commence training at 7:30am so that we will be able to monitor their matches and assess their performances,” he affirmed.

Lai further said he is optimistic of a bigger achievement in the coming international match with Guinea Bissau. “Our target was to establish a base and we have achieved that. Our concentration is not only on the international test match but also the proper U-17 tournament (qualifiers) which kicks off in June 2020 and there will be players who may not be eligible to play, that is why we have a short and long term plan,” he concluded.
