Two Gambian international Referees Omar Sallah and Esaha Sowe are among thirty other match officials preferred by the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) for the forth coming edition of the WAFU Cup of Nations, Senegal, 2019.

The two are currently in Thies ahead of the tournament for a pre match induction course where they are been introduced to match management techniques, new amendments of the laws, positioning and movement amongst others for an error free match officiating and professional conduct during the three weeks tournament.

Sallah a FIFA Referee who received his international badge in 2013 has had numerous FIFA and CAF assignments across the continent where he performed with brilliance and utmost dedication earning him regular assignments by the continental body while Assistant Referee Esaha Sowe who recently received his FIFA badge in January 2019 is referred as the new Gambian darling with the flag. His first assignment was in August 2019 in the CAF preliminary Match between Haifa FC of Guinea Conakry and Etoile Sportive Du Sahel of Tunisia. The young man was in the company of Omar Sallah in this scheduled while also teaming up with his Gambian compatriots Mustapha Bojang and Lamin N Jammeh. Esaha recently was in Egypt amongst FIFA new badge holders for a training course held in Cairo from 7th to 11th September, 2019 while Referee Omar Sallah was earlier on in August engaged at U-23 Qualifier match between Mali and Morocco.

The WAFU tournament will kick off on Saturday 28th September with Senegal taking on Bissau. The Gambia meanwhile will open its account to Ghana on Tuesday 1st October. The team is at camp at the Football Hotel in Yundum with regular trainings at the Independence Stadium in Bakau. WAFU has announced the comeback of Sierra Leone into the tournament after Morocco withdrew their participation.
