The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) would like to reassure the general public that their safety and well-being is at the forefront of any decision or action we take that would have an effect on you.

We are delighted with the amount of interest and fanfare created around our flagship club competition, the domestic first division, and we are committed to ensuring that the momentum is being kept in our efforts to reposition our football to its rightful place. Thus, the thinking behind the decision of the Executive Committee of the GFF to continue night matches beyond Ramadan to the end of the season because the kickoff times are favorable to attract more spectators.

In the absence of sponsorship for the league, which we hope will be attained soon due to the growing interest in the game, we are hopeful that the revenue collected through ticket sales would be able to take care of the high operating expenditure and overhead cost of the night matches. Thus, the reason we charge less than a Dollar to watch two matches, D20 (Twenty Dalasi) for the main stands and 2 Dollars (Hundred Dalasi) for the VIP section.

In light of the above, we are aware that the since the matches are played right after Iftar, there is a growing desire for Gambians to have a sip of their traditional China green tea, otherwise known as ‘Attaya’ during match times as it also contributes to the ambience of the fans watching their favorite teams entertaining them to spectacles of football.

But we must be mindful that the gas stoves and the fire pots used to brew this ‘Attaya’ are highly inflammable, thus putting the lives of its users and those around them at risk. Therefore, we urge spectators to kindly leave behind such things when coming to the Stadium. There is just one more weekend before Ramadan ends after which the fans would have the opportunity to have their ‘Attaya’ before attending night matches. From yesterday, these gas stoves and cooking pots are been barred from entering into the Stadium stands and the security will be at hand to implement. We solicit the cooperation of everyone.

Thank you.
