Ahead of Gambia’s opener in the World Cup 2022 preliminaries where the Scorpions play home to Angola’s Palancas Negras on 6th September, fans have started voicing calls for Gambians to turn out and fill the stands at the Independence Stadium on Scorpions’ Match day.

Sequel to the call made by the National Scorpions Fan Club President Bai Cham later this week, another ardent follower of the Scorpions Saikou Saidyleigh popularly known as Saikou Arsenal has come to the fore to make similar calls for Gambians to turn up in great numbers and fill the stands at the Independence Stadium on 6th September.

“Our plan amongst others is come and fill the stadium in our national colors, vuvuzelas, whistles, drums and we will do non stop supporting”, he told GFF website www.gambiaff.org.

He said the internationally accepted way of supporting football will be the new scheme for the fans. ” This is our year and our turn to qualify so i am expecting a historic crowd at the Stadium with non stop supporting so that our players feel that we are behind them”.

Saikou is a die hard fan of all Gambia national teams ( Men and Women ) and is a trusted and genuine supporter of the GFF National Football Development Plans ushered in by the Kaba led Executive. He has in the past initiated the forming of local fan base to drum up support for the Scorpions’ Afcon 2019 campaign and was hailed for his patriotism, confidence and dynamism throughout the period.

He further revealed that his local based group will be at hand to follow up with the Scorpions at their training ground until the match day. ” We will cheer them up because that is what they need from us. When we put everything in place, they will give us the maximum points i am sure of that”.

Meanwhile the Scorpions are expected to fly down in town over the coming weekend ahead of the game. This will be after Head Coach Tom Sainfiet reveals his final list and state of readiness for both home and away legs to Angola. The home leg is scheduled for Friday 6th Sept and a return to Luanda on Tuesday 10th September, 2019.
