The Gambia Hosts Ghana At U-17 WCQ, Sat Dec 2nd

The Gambia Women’s U-17 Scorpions will take on their counterparts Ghana at the first leg of the Second Round of FIFA U-17 World Cup 2018 Qualifier match at home slated for Saturday December, 2017.

The Gambian girls came from a hard fought but deserved win over Sierra Leone in the preliminary Qualifier when the Baby Scorpions brushed their equivalents 3 nil in Makeni in the first leg. Sierra Leone did not make it to the return leg citing technical difficulties and thus paving way for The Gambia to progress to the second round of the Qualifying series.

Ahead of the weekend game at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, the GFF Events Management Committee has emphasized the importance of the match citing that its a crucial stage for the Gambia hence the first leg to be played at home. The Committee has therefore announced free entry into the Stadium in order to bolster capacity of fans cheering up the gallant Women Scorpions. The Committee says all gates at the Stadium would be opened as early as 12 mid day and that no tickets would be sold at the gates. However, according to the Committee, the VIP Dais would be charged at D300:00 while invitations would also be sent to relevant stakeholders.

The Baby Women Scorpions are already in camp at the GFF Football Hotel in Yundum. The team under the technical guidance of Head Coach Abdoulie Bojang is now winding up training sessions at the Independence Stadium after two months of their return from Sierrra Leone.

The Gambia is anticipating for a return to the World stage after its maiden appearance at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Azerbaijan 2012 where the Baby Scorpions had a difficult but experience outing been their first in the country’s Women’s Football history.
