Following their triumphant return from the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) tournament in Thies Senegal where they were crowned Winners of the Zone A U-20 Tournament, the Gambia National U-20 Young Scorpions continue to receive more pleasantries from the football family.
The latest gesture came from Wallidan Football Club President Alieu Baye Ceesay who made a handsome donation of D50,000:00 (Fifty Thousand Dalasis ) to the WAFU Champions at a brief ceremony held on Thursday 17th December, 2020 at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Ceesay congratulated the Young Scorpions for a deserved glory which he described as an enormous accomplishment. He said the team has demonstrated gallantry amongst their peers and further felicitated them under the guidance of Head Coach Mattar Mboge for the feat. He called on other football family members both within and outside the country to come forward and give maximum support to the players in order to complement the efforts of the Gambia Football Federation. “This is one of the biggest achievements in the history of football in this country and I think everyone should come on board and boost the morals of these young players by giving them all the necessary support” he noted. The Wallidan FC Boss however advised the players to be focused on the game and not to be complacent as they have a great career ahead of them.
Team Vice Captain Tijan Marr while receiving the donated cash on behalf of the players expressed delight over the gesture describing it as a huge boost for them as they need the moral and financial support to achieve their goals. Marr promised on behalf of his mates to heed to the advice and guidance of the Coaches in order to gain success in their careers.
Head Coach Mattar M’Boge also expressed gratitude to the Wallidan FC President while thanking him for the kind gesture.
The team had similar monetary gestures while in Thies from Team Head of delegation Abdou Karim Sey on two occasions with an amount of 360,000 CFA shared amongst the players. According to Sey, the gesture is manifested by o improve the morals of the team and show appreciation for the extra ordinary performances displayed at the Finals.
Meanwhile the team is set to kick off training very soon in preparation for the Afcon U20 tournament in Mauritania schedule for February, 2021.
