Gambia’s most successful club, Wallidan, continuous its fairytale season on their return to the top flight with a 1-0 defeat of Hawks in a Banjul derby played at the KG5 Mini Stadium to get week thirteen of the domestic first division campaign underway.
Wallidan’s return to the summit of the 14-team table came at the expense of Brikama United who started the week at pole position but their 1-1 stalemate with struggling Banjul United on Saturday saw them dropped two valuable points as the race to finish champions and earn the right to represent The Gambia at the CAF Champions League for the next season gathers momentum. The Blues now led by 21 points with ‘Sateba’ a point behind in second with 21 points.
In other week thirteen games of the weekend, first-ever Gambian top flight campaigners, Bakau Katchikally (BK) Milan also made it two wins on the bounce following a 1-0 defeat of Tallinding United. The result catapult them to eight with 16 points while Fortune were held to a goalless draw by visiting Samger in a battle of the newly promoted teams at the Brikama Mini Stadium. With the draw, Samger remains in the relegation zone with 11 points while Fortune is three points further ahead at tenth.
Defending champions, Gamtel’s indifferent start to the season continuous when they were defeated 2-1 by Marimoo on Sunday as they remained on 17 points with their conquerors moving up to fourth with 19 points. The other match on Sunday saw Real de Banjul squared off with Federation Cup winners, The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), with the two sides playing a barren goalless draw. GAF is third on 20 points while the Whites dropped to joint fifth on 18 points. They are levelled on points with The Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) who defeated rocked bottom PSV Wellingara 1-0 in the final game of the weekend.
