Team Rhino and Bombada both win on Tuesday to close the gap on the top two who were involved in a goalless stalemate against each other as week 25 of the domestic second division got underway this week.

Sporting Real and Waa Banjul played a top of the table clash at the King George V Mini Stadium in what was also billed as a Banjul derby but the drab draw only helped in making the race for first division promotion even more exciting as the chasing duo capitalised on the two points dropped by the leaders to increase their chances of top flight football next season.

Sporting Real is still top of the 16-team table with 52 points from 25 matches, a point ahead of second place Waa Banjul. Team Rhino’s 1-0 defeat of Steve Biko at Bakau’s Independence Stadium means they’ve now reduced the gap between them and second place to just five points, with Bombada another four points behind following their 3-0 battering of Serrekunda Eastbi. Biko is 9th with 32 points, while Eastbi is in 13th with 24 points from 25 matches.

At the end of the season, two teams will be promoted to the first division which would be the top two teams on the final standing at the end of the season. With five matches still to go, a maximum of 15 points for grab, the leading duo cannot take anything for granted.
