Saint Joseph’s Lower Basic School yesterday secured a double over Methodist Lower Basic School in the ongoing PetroGas sponsored primary school football tournament currently underway at the Banjul Mini Stadium.
St Joseph’s girls first took to the field beating their counterparts from Methodist 2-0 and it was all smiles on the faces of the boys as well as they walked over the same opponents with a similar scoreline to complete the double.
Matches continues on Thursday as Muhammadan entertains Methodist while Albion LBS lock horns with St. Joseph’s in both the boys and girls categories.
Meanwhile, in the ongoing grassroots women football programme under The Gambia-German Football Cooperation Programme spearheaded by Monika Staab and Sainey Sissohore, it was the turn of Muhammadan and Wesley girls to benefit from the skills and tactics of the German technician.
Monika Staab, the director of the aforesaid programme, in conjunction with the Gambia Football Federation’s women football coordinator, Sainey Sissohore, is currently on an intensive daily training programme with twenty-five girls from each of the lower basic schools in Banjul, teaching them the basic skills and technics of football.
