As hopes continue to mount on the Gambia’s chances at home to Gabon in the return leg of the Afcon Qualifiers in Match Day Four of Group D, Scorpions Coach Tom Saintfiet has spoken with optimism about the level of readiness to face one of Group D’s toughest opponents on Monday.
Saintfiet was speaking to GFF Media at the team’s training session at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Saturday afternoon behind closed doors. He first thanked the GFF and the Gambia government for the level of support provided to the team during the campaign. “Now the focus is on Monday and our target is to win and even with one nil, we will be on top of Gabon”, he noted.
The Scorpions gaffer invited Modou Barrow, Ngine Faye Njie and Kalipha Manneh who all joined the camp on Saturday afternoon to beef up the Scorpions depth. “These are good players and i have also brought in Hamidou Bojang, Bun Sanneh and Ebrima Sidibeh and maybe one of them will be included in the final list“. Mid fielder Dawda Ngum has accumulated two yellow cards while Ebrima Colley is been ruled out due to injury.
Saturday’s training session was the first outing for the Scorpions following their return from GABON where they humbly lost 2-1 to the Panthers. “The balance of today’s session is recovery but also tactically trying to find opportunities and that is what we are looking at when we play Gabon“.
Saintfiet promised to show up an improved system while further expressing his satisfaction on the team’s comportment and preparedness for the return leg on Monday.
