Scorpions Coach Tom Sainfiet has named a 20 man Squad ready to take on the Squirrels of Benin in the penultimate round of matches for the Total Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers Cameroon 2019 slated for Saturday 17th November, 2018 when the Gambia take on Benin at the independence Stadium in Bakau.

Followed by a Press Conference at the GFF Board Room in Kanifing, Sainfiet disclosed that the Scorpions are ready for what he described as tough and challenging game ‘ because Benin and Algeria are leading in our group but we are ready to take it up’. He disclosed that the invited players will begin jetting into Banjul on Monday 12th November, the eve of going into camp and the beginning of their technical preparation.

‘We have analyze our past matches and concluded that the performance was satisfactory but disappointed with the result. We played more offensive approach at home matches but we didn’t score and that was really bad for the team’.

The ‘Saint’ expressed optimism about Gambia having to qualify for future Afcon editions taking cognition of the strong pool of players across Europe and elsewhere. ‘ In the near future, am sure Gambia will qualify to AFCON because we have young and good players that are ready to fight for their country and they are very competitive’. He said the aim of the team is to win at home against Benin but quick to state that Benin in a good side but ‘ we also must respect our players too because they are equally good’.

Commenting on the attitude of fans, he called on them to desist from going against the team at anytime during the game. ‘ The fans are also part of the game and they are very important for the players. But they must desist from booing the players and stop throwing stones and insults. He encouraged fans to be steadfast and be with the team at all times and push them by supporting so that they win their hearts.
