The Gambia’s men’s first division title race is being further blown widely opened after third place Real de Banjul humbled Wallidan 3-0 in week 22 of the championship. This result is coupled with the leading duo, The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) and Brikama United’s failure to win at the weekend.

With the comfortable win at the King George V Mini Stadium in Banjul, Real is on 36 points, just a solitary point adrift of second place Brikama and a further point behind leaders GAF. The result has all but certainly ruled the Blues out of the title race as they languished in fifth with 31 points.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Brikama United came from behind to force a 2-2 draw against defending champions Gamtel at the Box Bar Mini Stadium in Brikama. Brikama first took the lead in the four-goal thriller before the Telecom Boys responded twice to take a 2-1 lead but as the game approached full time, the hosts scored to ensure a share of the spoils.

Meanwhile, in the relegation battle played at the Independence Stadium, PSV Wellingara and Samger cancelled out each other with a barren draw. The result means both teams remain in the relegation zone and are in danger of dropping to the second tier. PSV is bottom with 16 points while Samger are two points better with 18 points from 22 matches.

Meanwhile on Sunday, GAF failed to take advantage of Brikama United’s slip to put further light between them and second place when they were held goalless by Fortune in Brikama. Elsewhere, Hawks and Banjul United played another barren draw in Banjul.
