Marian Jatta is a 12-year-old goalkeeper who hails from Bakary Sambouya village in the Kombo Central District of the West Coast Region. In a time when progress in the development of women’s football in The Gambia is increasing exponentially and at an all-time high thanks to the unqualified commitment of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF), she is one to watch for as a future national star.

The girl continuous to win more admirations in the West Coast Region and beyond with her amazingly mesmerizing skills and wonderful calm attitude. Marian got a rare talent for a child of her age and been a goalkeeper made her case even more interesting. She has been described by many to be a future asset for her community.

Essa Sambou, a regional football coach appointed by the GFF and posted in the Region is one of the coaches interacting with the young girl on a regular basis. He described her as a talent that needs to be supported to realise her potential and said all children should be given equal opportunities.

Marian Jatta is playing for the Bakary Sambouya junior team, taking part in the Girls Empowerment Tournament currently underway in the community, which is organised by the Kombo Central II District Sports Committee. The tournament is geared towards complementing the efforts of the GFF in developing women’s and grassroots football nationwide.
