The Gambia Football Federation on Thursday 20th July, 2023 has signed for the construction of a new Mini Stadium at Nyakoi Kerewan in the Upper River Region. The signing of the project held at the Football House in Kanifing came on the heels of our bilateral co-operation with the Saudi Arabia Football Federation that was initiated by the GFF President Lamin Kaba Bajo.
Speaking at the signing ceremony today, GFF President Lamin Kaba Bajo noted the significance of the project. “This is the first of its kind that the GFF is signing a project funded outside of the FIFA funds”. Mr. Bajo underscored the vitality of the project hence its location in the upper part of the country to benefit the football family and stakeholders across the URR. “This is a key project for the GFF because it is located in the Wuli District and URR is a footballing region to also benefit from such a facility”, he remarked.
Earlier, GFF First Vice President Bakary K Jammeh thanked the GFF Projects and Contracts and Legal Committees for their input in the project conceptualization for the due-diligence on the contract documents for both the contractor and consultants. “This project is made possible because of the personal efforts made by President Bajo with the Saudi Football Federation and it is a very important in the decentralization drive by the GFF. The foundation stone of the project will be laid in Nyakoi Kerewan on Saturday 24th July 2023 and construction will last for four months.
The project consists of the following:
The Construction of Football Pitch includes a new perimeter fence with a combination of block work and steel mesh of about 3m high. Levelling the entire pitch ground, supplying of both laterite soil and black sand, planting grass, installing of lawn sprinkler system and construction 8’’ borehole system.
The Construction of the Nyakoi Kerewan project dressing rooms consists of, 2 dressing rooms, referee’s room, medical room and office block for the regional football association all with toilets and the total floor area is approximately 200m2.
