The fourth edition of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) national schools football competition, dubbed The Principals’ Cup, sponsored by GTBank continues to gather pace at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
The grassroots competition brings together eight boys and girls school teams in each of the upper basic and senior school categories across the country for the final version of the competition. The competition is played across the country in the form of a national championship at regional level and it is the eight best teams that qualifies for the final stages.
The national championship is sponsored by the GFF but Football House has outsourced the organisation of the competition to The Gambia School Football Association, a member association of the Federation.
The final in either category is scheduled for Sunday at the Independence Stadium in Bakau. However, we are still in the mid stages of the competition with match day three of the tournament witnessing some intriguing encounters. The Gambia Senior Secondary School on Wednesday thrashed Farafenni 4-0 in the boys’ category while Armitage, Mindaw, and Nasir all snatched vital wins against Kabafita, Kanifing, and Tahir senior schools respectively.
Elsewhere, in the girls’ category, St. Michael senior school from the North Bank Region annihilated Nasir of Basse 3-0, while Mahaad of Old Yundum and Gambia High defeated Armitage and Tahir of Mansa Konko respectively. Bottrop of Brikama defeated Nusrat 3-1 of Bundungka Kunda.
