The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) on Wednesday, February 20th 2019, kicked-off a four-day intensive training workshop with female coaches in the regions. The course instructors are Sainey Sissohore, the GFF’s Women’s Football Coordinator and Monika Staab, the Director of The Gambia-German Football Project.
The team began its outreach programme in Farafenni in the North Bank Region where 24 female teachers and club coaches gathered for a two-day seminar. The programme includes the basic techniques in coaching. These includes ball control, dribbling, passing, team formation, coordination and lots more to enhance effective and efficient team building.
Speaking at the opening, the President of the North Bank Regional Football Association (NBRFA), Mr. Abou Khan welcomed the team and thanked them for the initiative, while assuring them of his region’s support.
The Principal Education Officer (PEO) for Region 3, Mr. Fabala Singhateh, described the project as laudable and said the Ministry of Education at the Regional level will continue to collaborate to boost the promotion of women’s and grassroots football.
Meanwhile on Thursday, the team engaged 50 players in a festival at the Farafenni Mini Stadium. The festival is meant to open their horizon and give them more opportunity to practice what has been learnt during the course period. This, according to the NBRFA President, will mark the start of the women’s league opening in Essau scheduled for Saturday 2nd March, 2019.
The team will proceed to the Lower River Region in Soma on Thursday evening for another two-day training programme where another batch of female coaches will converge for a similar training.
The tour is sequel to GFF Executive Committee’s end of countrywide trek in the regions in the beginning of February 2019 where the President Lamin Kaba Bajo led a strong contingent to touch base with the stakeholders with a view to interact and discuss on matters affecting football in the regions. Thus the tour of the women’s football project is a follow up to President Bajo’s ardent desire for an all-inclusive participation for the development and growth of women’s football across the country.
