The Gambia’s flagship domestic league competition, the first division, gets underway today with 16 teams competing in the championship for the very first time.
The league was played between 14 teams last season but following the relegation of the bottom two, four earned promotion to make up the 16-team division.
Brikama United will open their campaign against Marimoo in the early kick-off at the Late Ousman Saho Field at Old Yundum at 4pm before all attentions turn to the Independence Stadium later at night in a double header that would see Waa Banjul takes on Gambia Armed Soldiers (GAF) while Gamtel entertains promoted Samger at 8pm and 10pm respectively.
There will be no matches on Saturday but action resumes on Sunday with Team Rhino playing their first ever match amongst the elites when they host Gambia Ports Authority at the Late Ousman Saho at 4pm. Two more matches will be played on the day when Banjul United takes on Hawks in the 8pm kick-off before elite United and Wallidan square off at 10pm.
Week One will wrap up with two other night fixtures on Monday 22nd November, as Falcons get their first taste of top flight action with a meeting of fellow promoted side Steve Biko at 5pm before a mouth-watering tie sees Fortune begin the defence of their title with a 7pm clash against Real de Banjul.
