Four Gambian Referees with FIFA certified badges have recently concluded a Five days Elite Referees Training Seminar in Cairo, Egypt at the invitation of CAF. Lamin N. Jammeh, Baboucarr Alhassan Bass ( Central Referees) Mustapha Bojang and Essaha Jallow ( Assistant Referees) are the latest approved Gambian match Officials to have joined a host of their Anglophone counterparts across the Continent in a FIFA referees course in the capital city of Egypt (Cairo) funded by FIFA/CAF.
The Referees seminar is meant to enhance the capacity and knowledge of the new badge holders while to also bring to their understanding the new amendments as enshrined in the Laws of the game. The men in black will have to au fait themselves with the application of the new amendments as they would be in full force during the ongoing competitions for CAF Inter Club, Afcon and World Cup Qualifiers in addition to the new FIFA concept of match officiating.
GFF Referee Manager Seedy Manneh said the Gambian Referees selected for the Course have been doing very well since the sessions kicked off in Cairo. “Our men are doing very well at the Seminar since their arrival because this is not the first time for Gambia to be part of such CAF engagements”. He expressed delight on the performance of the Four Referees selected. “They are the new badge holders and we are confident of their inputs and am sure they will come home to implement what has been learnt”. He said amongst the exercises at the Seminar includes medical and fitness tests which according to him have both been passed by the Gambian Referees. “This is a clear testimony that Gambian Referees continue to excel in the arbitration of matches across Africa hence they are also inspired by incontestable Bakary Papa Gassama”, he noted.
