A selection of locally based national team players, known as the CHAN Team, intensify its training as part of preparations for next month’s friendly international match with Senegal and the WAFU Cup of Nations in September 2019.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with www.gambiaff.org after his side’s 1-0 defeat of Gambian champions Brikama United, Omar Sise the Head Coach expressed his satisfaction with the commitment and determination showed by his boys so far. “It is good so far, preparations are not easy but definitely from our last game we were little bit happy with what we have seen so we hope that continues. We have players coming on and off because of injuries and travels but definitely speaking we are coping with everything and so far the way we are going is promising, we are praying to God to guide us to where we want to be,” he said.
Coach Sise further expressed his delight with the support and commitment showed to his team from The Gambia Football Federation (GFF). “We are grateful with the assistance from the GFF and everybody else,” he affirmed.
About the Senegal friendly slated for 21st August at Bakau’s Independence Stadium, Sise said he doesn’t know much about his opponents but with nearly three weeks before the match, he has time to do some research on them. ” We are preparing, we still have a good twenty days to the game so there is plenty of time for that preparation. I don’t know much about the Senegalese team but I will start working on them so that we can know how we are going to prepare ourselves. They are a powerhouse [in African football] and if we can do something better with them definitely we can say we will have a good match with Ghana [in the opening game of the WAFU Cup of Nations in Senegal] Insha’Allah,” he stated.
Coach Omar Sise concluded by urging Gambians to rally behind his team and pray for their success.
