The Scorpions preparations for the forthcoming AFCON Finals in Cameroon kicked off in Antalya, Turkey, on Tuesday with a two-week technical training camp.
Head Coach Tom Saintfiet and his 26-man players and staff converged this week in the Turkish resort city. Of the team present are ten new players that recently joined the ranks. The most notable newcomer is teenage sensation and AS Roma wonder kid Ebrima Darboe. Born 6th June 2001, he is currently a hot prospect for the Italian Serie A giants having broken into the first team at the final stretch of the season. He is set to make his debut for Gambia when the Scorpions entertain Niger in Antalya on Friday, just a day before his 20th birthday.
Speaking in an interview with The Gambia Football Federation in house medium, Darboe said he is elated and full of joy to join his teammates. He added that Head Coach Tom Saintfiet has been inviting him in the previous matches but could not honor the invitation due to the devastating effects of the Covid19 pandemic with Italy being one of the hardest hit sides.
“Now I am available and I am ready to help the team and make our county proud. I will bring my experience I have with my team in Italy,” he affirmed.
Another of the new faces to join the team is Abubakar Kanteh, Musa Juwara, Leon Guwara, Omar Gaye and Muhammed Sanneh.
