In their first ever season in the national division two league, B4U Kiang West Football Club is regarded as one of the favourites candidates for relegation and it turns out that they’ve been languishing at the bottom half of the table for much part of the season.
In week 19, they were defeated 2-1 by Red Hawks, a result that sent them into the danger zone itself. However, they bounced back from that disappointment with a big win over fellow strugglers, Lions of Banjul, securing a 3-1 home victory at the Soma Mini Stadium in Jarra, Lower River Region, to move out of the bottom three to 12th on the 16-team table with 21 points. That resulted has compounded Lions of Banjul’s woes as they remained in the drop zone with just 16 points from 20 matches.
Steve Biko is also having an indifferent season in 2018/19 and is also consistent on its inconsistency. However, they got back to winning ways in week 20 when they defeated Gunjur United 2-1 in a match played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau. The win moved them to 8th position with 25 points.
Elsewhere in the second division, Sporting Real’s quest to win the second division title in their debut season suffers another setback when they succumbed to a last minute equaliser as they drew 2-2 with Immigration in a match played at the King George V mini Stadium in Banjul. Sporting Real is now on 39 points, 3 points adrift of leaders Waa Banjul who can extend their lead at top of the table to six with a win over a highly rejuvenated Bombada at the Box Bar Mini Stadium today.
The other week 20 matches of today will see fifth place Latrikunda United takes on Young Africans in ninth at the Independence Stadium with just four points separating the two sides. Basement side 2nd Infantry Battalion will also entertain Serrekunda Eastbi at the Soma Mini Stadium in the final fixture of the day.
