The Gambia Football Federation (GFF), through the Technical Staff of The Gambia U-20 Team, this week intensified preparations for the Young Scorpions’ smooth participation in the FIFA U-20 World Cup to be held in Indonesia in May of this year.

The team last week held a meeting with the First Vice President of the GFF, Mr. Bakary K. Jammeh, who also doubles as Football House’s Head of Admin & Finance at the Federation’s Headquarters in Kanifing East Layout. Today, Head Coach Abdoulie Bojang and his staff presented the AFCON report to the Technical Director Mr. Sang John Ndong in the form of a roundtable discussion held at the home of Gambian football, the National Technical Training Centre (NTT) in Old Yundum.

The Evaluation and Planning was meant to discuss and evaluate the U-20’s participation at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt where the team won a silver medal having reached its first ever finals in this category where they eventually lost to Senegal 2-0. Discussions cantered on intensifying plans for the U-20 World Cup participation, which include resuming training, local camp and international camp/friendly matches before the World Cup, amongst others.

Meanwhile, Lai Bojang is expected to leave for Bali, Indonesia on Tuesday morning to attend the FIFA U-20 World Cup draw. He will be accompanied by Pa Suwareh Faye the Team Manager and Modou Jagne, Team Administrator. The draw is expected to take place on March 31.

There are growing fears around the media that the draw might possibly be cancelled after the protest against Israel’s participation in the tournament grows in Indonesia but FIFA is yet to give an official statement at the time of gpoing to press.
