Young Scorpions Mattar M’Boge has remarked that his side is aware of the strong teams in the quarterfinals of the U-20 Cup of Nations but their objective is to go and win the next match against the Central Africa Republic on Friday.
M’Boge, who was speaking in a pre-match press conference ahead of the 7pm kickoff, also pointed out that all the games they’ve had since the beginning of the competition has been very tough and that’s an added advantage to his side.
“They’re a strong team but we cannot also hide that we’re the favorites. It brings pressure in terms of the result. So, we have to come and play with a strong mentality and respect Central Africa. Clearly, our objective is to win and advance further,” he asserted.
M’Boge further stated that his first ambition is to develop the young players to get to the peak of their careers. “Honestly, my first objective is to develop these players. I want to help them to get to another level, to the highest level, that’s my first job. So, we just try to put them in the best position for them to excel and give their best, and once the team performs then the results come.”
He also applauded the level of performance and enthusiasm displayed by the players while stating that they’ll remain humble and apply the tactical approaches instilled in them during training sessions.
The Scorpions gaffer also acknowledged and commended The Gambia Football Federation President Mr. Lamin Kaba Bajo for his timely intervention to accommodate the team at the MauriCenter Hotel in Nouakchott.
Speaking on behalf of the players, Lamarana Jallow stated that they are fully prepared and ready to give out their best to win the match.
