The national women’s league is already shaping out to be a three-horse race with Red Scorpions, Gambia Police Force and Abuko United all on a maximum nine points after three matches.
The league took a Ramadan break and upon resumption, all three picked from where they left to send a signal that this year’s league could prove to be yet another fascinating one where it could be too early to choose an early season favorite.
Three fixtures were played over the weekend with 10 goals been scored, averaging 3.3 goals per game. The first match saw Immigration recorded its second win of the season with a 2-0 defeat of early strugglers Brikama United. While Immigration is fourth on the eight-team table with six points, Brikama is yet to record a point after three matches.
Meanwhile, Red Scorpions returned to the summit on goal difference following a resounding 4-1 defeat of Gambia Armed Forces. Red Scorpions have so far scored an incredible 19 goals with just a solitary goal conceded. The Police are second on the table, with the same number of points having scored seven and yet to concede while Abuko is third with a positive goal difference of six.
Furthermore, on Sunday, City Girls’ poor start to the season continued with a 3-0 thrashing at the hands of the Police. With the latest defeat, City Girls are second from bottom without a point while Kintehs FC occupies the base because of their inferior goal difference.
