Action in week 16 of the domestic first division season came to an end on Sunday with basement side Tallinding United completely moving out of the drop zone with a shock 2-1 defeat of fifth place Gambia Armed Forces (GAF).

Tallinding went into the final match of the week rooted to the spot but has now moved up to joint 10th on the 14-team table following the hard-fought win. GAF seemed to be in total control when Tallinding’s former talismanic striker Saikou Ceesay scored to give the Soldiers a ninth-minute lead. From that point, it looked as if it was headed for a stroll in the park for the Khaki Boys but Tallinding had other ideas and Lamin Kinteh scored twice before the break to completely turn the game on its head.

Sanna Darboe’s side is now on 16 points, levelled with Hawks but trailed the Reds on goal difference and the win will serve as a welcome boost as we enter the business end of the season. The consequence of Tallinding’s win is that it has now forced Bakau Katchikally Milan to languish just above the drop zone on a mere goal difference. They have 15 points, levelled with Gamtel with the latter now in the bottom two by virtue of their inferior goal difference. Marimoo is now at the foot of the table with 14 point.
