The Gambia’s Scorpions have had their smiles over the Central African Republic after a 2-1 scoreline in Monday’s friendly international match played in Rabat.
In their second warm up against the CAR, the Scorpions put up one of their best away performances with a breathtaking efforts to overcome the CAR with superb goals from former Swansea forward Modou Barrow been his first for the national side before his compatriot Mustapha Carayol netted the decider. Although CAR pulled one just before the break, but it went all well for the Scorpions at regulation time.
The Gambia’s merited 2-1 win over CAR is part of series of preparatory matches ahead of the Scorpions Group D AfCON Qualifier with Algeria, Benin and Togo which kicks off later in June. The Morocco camping is the latest in a line up of technical preps set up by the GFF Executive under the President Lamin Kabba Bajo to enable Head Coach Sang Ndong hone the skills of his charges before the qualifiers proper. The victory over the CAR is also the first win for the former Hawks coach when he assumed charges for the Scorpions and thus heralds the comeback of broad smiles to Gambian football lovers.
The Scorpions are now winding up their training camp in Rabat and are expected to return to the Gambia in the coming days shortly. Meanwhile back home in the Gambia, the local based national side ( CHAN) will come face to face with their Moroccan visitors U-23 side in a second friendly international on Tuesday March 28th at the Box Bar Mini Stadium in Brikama at 5pm. The CHAN team drew their counterparts at a goal less stalemate in their first warm up on Sunday March 26th and are expected to cap off their preparation with a win over the North African side when they meet on Tuesday night at Gambia’s cosmopolitan town, Brikama which according to the coaches will attract more spectator turn out than the previously scheduled venue.
