Scorpions Captain Omar Colley and 14 other players are the latest to jet into Banjul ahead of Gambia’s opening World cup 2022 preliminary series at home to Angola.

Gambia’s Sampdoria defender is also been joined by his countrymen Lamin Jallow (Salernitana, Italy), Musa Barrow (Atalanta, Spain), Ebou Touray (Salford City UK) amongst many have all arrived in the Gambia on Monday afternoon ahead of Friday’s much anticipated tussle.

Captain Omar Colley who played for his club on the final match day before the international break, described the trip as hectic but normal. “It’s always an honor to be called to represent ones country and we are ready for the challenge because this time it’s a must win for us” he said.

Colley said playing against Angola is not going to be easy but with the wealth of players in the Scorpions camp, collectively they can bring glory. “We know what lies ahead. This game is very important for us but with determination and focus, we shall qualify” he said.

Lamin Jallow ( Beck ) also coming from a two goals scoresheet for his club over the weekend in Italy said he is always proud to be home and thus called on all Gambians to rally behind the team. He assured Gambians of his readiness to put up more efforts inorder to score goals for the country as he does for his club. “We know the expectations are high and that alone is motivating for us. We will start training soon and see with the technicians what we have for the game”.

The Atalanta skipper Musa Barrow expressed delight and confidence in the team. He said it’s always going to be tough hence Qualifiers are always challenging but “we are always ready to do for our country and will do more this time”. Barrow appealed to all fans to put on their national colors to cheer up the Scorpions.

The latest contingent of Scorpions will join five members that have earlier made to Banjul since over the weekend. Bun Sanneh, Assan Ceesay, PA Modou Jagne, Yusupha Njie and goal keeper Modou Jobe have already made touch home as the first cohort of Scorpions ready for the Palancas Negras while mid fielder Ebrima Sohna and defender Momodou Futty Danso both also hosts the latest arrivals in town.

Meanwhile according to Coach Tom Sainfiet, training begins on Tuesday Sept 3rd at the Independence Stadium each day at 09:00am and 16:00pm respectively.
