Coach Tom Saintfiet today finalised his 25-man squad to begin a 10-day training camp in Marrakesh, Morocco where the Scorpions will play two friendly matches with Guinea Conakry and the hosts on 7th and 12th June, respectively. The camp will begin on Monday 3rd June to 12th June, 2019.

Sulayman Marreh’s late withdrawal saw the team fall short by one player from the original plan of 26 players. However, there have been a huge amount of player absence before that, some with valid reasons while others failed to even respond to the invitations. Amongst them includes Baboucarr Gaye who prefers to stay home as he awaits a new contract offer following the expiration of his current deal with Arminia Bielefeld. Simon Richter is also involved in a promotion playoff with Brønshøj Boldklub in Denmark.

Saintfiet was hoping that former Switzerland youth team player Saidy Janko and Kristian Brix would be putting on the Scorpions jersey for the first time but the FC Porto defender and Brix haven’t replied to the invitation, while Ibou Touray decides to go on holiday following a long and exhaustive season with Salford FC.

Another absentee is Yusupha Bobb who is currently out for three months with knee injury, while Hamza Barry and Modou Barrow said they have no interest to play for the National Team. Aboubakary Kanté is currently occupied with securing himself a new transfer. Nuha Marong Krubally is also absent because he has playoff matches and prefers to stay at his club but Bubacarr Steve Trawally and Dadi Dodou Gaye never replied to the invitation. Assan Ceesay and Yusupha Njie are both recovering from injuries.
