The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) Women’s Division One came to a magnificent end over the weekend with Red Scorpions winning their second consecutive league since returning to the top flight.

The Old Jeshwang based outfit ended the season with a staggering 37 points collected in 15 league matches, scoring 42 goals and conceding just 6 times following their final day goalless draw against The Gambia Armed Forces played at the Independence Stadium on Saturday 4th May 2019. After the game the record Gambian champions were decorated with medals, a giant trophy and cash price of D150, 000.

Interior finished in second with 31 points, 6 points behind their bitter rivals following their 1-1 draw against third place Abuko United on Friday 3 May 2019 at the National Technical Training Center in Old Yundum. The Police Ladies scored 24 goals, shipping in 10 goals in a difficult and an indifferent season. As second place finishes, Interior FC were compensated with a cash price of D100, 000 at the coronation ceremony on Saturday.

Abuko United pocketed D50, 000 following their surprised third place finish recording 19 points, 2 more than Armed Forces. The Abuko based outfit scored 16 and conceding 15 goals in what many described as a successful season performance.

The Gambia Armed Forces had a season to forget after finishing 4th registering just 16 points from the available 45 points. They finished the season with a negative goal difference of 9 after scoring 11 and conceding 20 goals.

City Girls came out fifth position and second from bottom in the 6-team league table, earning 8 points; the same number of points as their Sunday opponents Immigration FC who finished bottom of the league table. The bottom two cancelled out each other following their 1-1 draw in their final day of the season on Sunday.

The Red Army’s goal machine Adama Tamba again finished as top scorer, scoring a mammoth 16 goals in just 15 games, averaging more than a goal per game. She is followed by team mate Kumba Kuyateh who registered 6 goals, Isatou Jallow of Interior, Mam Drammeh Abuko United and Haddy Wally of Immigration FC all recorded 5 goals in the 2018-19 season.
