Real de Banjul moved to the top of the first division table after they trounced Elite United 3-0 in a match played at their Live Your Dreams Mini Stadium in Basori.

The Whites came went into the fixture on fourth place with 13 points but the win has seen them go joint top of the table with Falcons, Waa Banjul and Wallidan with all four teams tied on 16 points. However, the former leads on goal difference of plus 10, three goals better than their closest challengers Waa Banjul.

Following a sloppy start from both sides, Real’s Alieu Gibba was the closest to scoring having two of his free-kicks missed the target with a whisker but the Banjul giants still went into the break ahead as full-back Modou Manneh broke the deadlock on the stroke of halftime.

Adama Saidy added a second five minutes into the restart before Modou Lamin Demba rounded up the emphatic scoreline with a third goal with just quarter of an hour remaining.

Bai Malleh Wadda’s side are in rich vein of form in front of goal and have now scored seven goals in their last two matches.

Speaking in a post-match interview, Wadda said despite losing some players who have left for pastures new with professional contracts in recent weeks, he still has 25 very good players at his disposal. “We want to maintain our status as the best team of the league especially with the squad I have,” he asserted.

His counterpart on the bench for Elite United, Yahya Manneh said his plan was to collect a point that didn’t happen making the challenge much more difficult.
