The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) through its regional football coach for the concerned region, on Tuesday organised an induction training for Physical Education (PE) teachers in the Kanifing Municipality.

The one-day event is part of preparations for the grassroots football tournament slated for this weekend. Teachers were derived from lower basic schools across the region and converged at the Serrekunda Lower Basic School grounds.

The GFF appointed regional coach for KM, who doubles as the coordinator of the programme, Mr. Ibrahim Khalil Dumbuya, said the training is meant to prepare the teachers for the upcoming KM regional schools football tournament to avoid controversies during the tournament.

“The training workshop was meant to teach the PE teachers on the way to select a team, to avoid unfriendly selections amongst others,” said Coach Dumbuya.

The selected teachers were introduced to the basic techniques of the grassroots tournament, as well as the coordination method which according to Mr. Dumbuya is very crucial; “because most of the teachers do not know how to train the kids and all they do is to play an eleven aside game during training not knowing these are kids and there are special training methods for them.”

A theoretical session of the programme was also conducted and was led by Coach Dumbuya and assisted by Red Scorpions Coach Choro Mbenga. The day’s programme was attended by PE teachers from schools that are scheduled to take part in the aforesaid tournament.
