Vice Captain Omar Colley this week extended his contract with Italian Serie A side Sampdoria until the summer of 2025, the Genoa based club announced.
The Scorpion was linked with a move away from the Luigi Ferraris Stadium all summer but stayed put after no club was able to meet his valuation by the Italians.
Club President Massimo Ferrero announced the news of the Gambian defender’s contract extension. The new deal is expected to serve as a welcome boost for both club and player after the former Wallidan protégé recently reclaimed his place in the starting eleven following a troublesome few weeks in the aftermath of his failed move to the English premier league.
Colley, who made 67 appearances for the club and scored a goal since joining the Itálian side in 2018, is key to the club’s recent turn of fortunes following an indifferent start to the season.
The 28-year-old Lamin born is also a key player for Tom Saintfiet’s side, playing in all four matches as the Scorpions rose to the top of Group D qualification in its quest to secure a maiden appearance at the AFCON finals in Cameroon 2022.
