The Ministry of Youth and Sports through the National Sports Council (NSC) has felicitated the Gambia Football Federation for its sound football management. The regulatory body was at Football House on Monday 27th January 2020 as part of their visit to National Sports Associations in a bid to get first hand information regarding the operations of the various sporting bodies.
NSC Executive Director Marcel Kevin Mendy said their visit to the GFF Secretariat is premised on a tour of Associations to abreast the Council on their activities and amongst others acquaint the body with current realities of Associations’ work plan, engagements, way forward and constraints.
Been the top most sport Association in the country, Mr Mendy described the GFF as pace setters for other Associations to emulate from. He expressed the MoYS’s gratitude and happiness through the National Sports Council for the improvements and successes registered at the Football House and by extension to the Senior National team for their recent Afcon Qualifiers performance. He said the NSC will continue to be the interface between the GFF and the Ministry of Youth and Sports for all matters regarding their programs. He assured the Ministry’s unalloyed support to the development of football and reiterated the Council’s desire to working with Football House at all times.
GFF General Secretary Lamin M Jassey in return also hailed the NSC for a laudable initiative and thanked the NSC Officials for being steadfast in their programs during the period while renewing the commitment of the GFF to working closely with the Ministry of Youth and sports through the NSC.
Jassey further used the occasion to abreast the Council about GFF’s programs highlighting its upcoming engagements in the months of February and March. He singled out the Gambia’s return to the Afcon Qualifiers in March where the Scorpions will resume their Group D match away to Gabon in the opening leg and at home in Banjul for the return leg in March 2020. Mr Jassey further informed the NSC Officials about Gambia’s invitation to the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Women’s tournament to be hosted by Sierra Leone in February this year. He said the GFF has worked out plans to participate in the tournament and informed the Council that a team is already at hand. He also informed the Council about the new player registration system (PRS) introduced by the GFF meant to track the details of all players online. He said it is a new innovation by the GFF Competitions Department which also incorporates League statistics and according to him will also curb player age cheating.
He thanked the NSC for the visit and congratulated the Executive Director for the laudable initiative to make the Council close to the sporting Associations. Other members in the NSC tour team include Ebrima Secka and Alh Abdoulie Bojang.
