The North Bank regional third division league is finally nearing its climax with action in the group stages coming to an end this weekend.
The two group winners will face off in a post-season playoff final to determine the regional champion that will represent the region in a four-horse race to secure one of the three provincial spots on offer for promotion to the national second division league.
But first though is Barra United and Aljamdu United facing off in their rescheduled week nine fixture this Wednesday 5th May at the Barra Football Field with kickoff set for 4:30pm. Barra and Aljamdu occupy the last two spots in their group going into the match.
Elsewhere, in the final matches of Group A, all games will be played on Saturday simultaneously across three venues to avoid match fixing. Second place Rockland United will lock horns with second from bottom Mauritani United in Farafenni. Rockland is on 18 points, a single point adrift of leaders Region United. Rockland will be looking for all three points and hope that Region fails to win their game to claim top spot and qualify for the finals.
Region will travel to Kerewan to take on third place Star Academy who have 15 points. Region needs a win to be assured of wining the group while Star Academy will only be playing for pride as they are four points behind their opponents, thus establishing an unassailable lead for them. The final game will see fourth place Farafenni host rocked bottom Illiasa United.
It is a two-horse race in Group B as Kunta Kinteh FC and Essau United are levelled on 16 points apiece from nine matches with the former only leading by virtue of their two goals advantage over the latter.
Kunta Kinteh will take on Aljamdu FC at Toubakolong on Sunday at 4:30pm while second place Essau will travel to Medina Kanuma to play third place Jambar United on the same day and time. Fourth place Joko United will entertain fifth place Barra United in Fass. Both teams have no chance of qualification to the final phase of the competition.
