Delegates at the North Bank Regional Football Association (NBRFA), over the weekend, unanimously adopted the activity report and financial statement presented by the executive body at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Kerewan, the administrative capital.
The regional AGM is a constitutional requirement where the football family interface with its stakeholders to review the activities of the year ended and map out ways of forging ahead with a view to attaining its organisational goals and objectives.
Presenting his reports, the President of the Association, Mr. Abu Khan described the AGM as a top most constitutional mandate for the NBRFA as it avails them the opportunity to put forward reports of activities of the year ending and the budget for the following year. He added that it further avails them the opportunity to seek approval from the football family on the audited accounts of the preceding year, including a scrutiny of the financial activities of the Regional Football Association.
Commenting on the NBRFA management competencies, Mr. Khan noted that they continue to put high premium on the respect to the laws governing football and as such will never deviate from articulating their competence in good governance and efficient financial management. “We will also never relent in forging genuine partnership with stakeholders including The Gambia Football Federation and government.”
The AGM reports further indicated the successful completion of two consecutive league seasons with cups and prizes awarded as promised. In 2018, he noted, 2nd Infantry Battalion emerged winners of the league and thus gained automatic qualification to the national second division where they are still competing.
“In 2019, the region continues to make history as both men and women leagues were successfully completed despite the meager resources available. Jambar FC of Medina Kanuma became men’s champions while Lower Nuimi won the women’s category. And all winners and runners up received their prize monies across both leagues ranging from D50,000:00 to D30,000:00 and D10,000:00 respectively,” he added.
Delegates applauded the regional FA for being the pacesetters by standing out as one of the trendsetting provincial football associations that have both a men’s and women’s third division leagues running concurrently. The delegates also commended the FA for ensuring there is adequate capacity building programs in refereeing, coaching and medics, where the football leadership conducted trainings on a number of technical programs to enhance the capacity of stakeholders.
Women’s football remains a key priority for the NBRFA. The regional league gave birth to a women’s national second division team for the first time outside the Greater Banjul Area with Lower Nuimi. The leadership was also credited for the successful conduct of a D’ License coaching course for women’s coaches held in Kerewan.
Two other coaches in Fatou B. Jallow and Meta Camara were amongst the FIFA coaches training batch for 30 female physical education teachers trained through the German Olympic Committee Technical Assistance Program.
