The Gambia have now known its opponents to the Semi Final of the WAFU ZONE A Tournament Guinea when the Young Scorpions take on closest neighbor Senegal at Wednesday’s semi final.

Reacting to the draw after their training over the weekend, Head Coach Matarr Mboge said the Gambia knew that the possibility of playing neighbors Senegal is high after the former French colony finished second in their group on Friday. ‘Our objective was to be on top of our group from the beginning of the tournament. We have achieved that and it gives us the confidence to face who ever we play with”. The Gambia plays Senegal in the first Semis for the top Four quality teams.

The former Scorpions Assistant Coach said the players are looking good in training and he is happy to see some different combination of players in some positions after their successful test match 5-1 whopping of ASK Kaloum youth team.

“Everything looks good. We look forward to having a fantastic game of football and we hope that everything we put and worked for at the training ground and our game plan will be enough for the boys to go out and win the game”, he continued.

Mboge said his team has performed with high intensity and fast football in humid conditions of the two games played in the group stages. He said they will make adjustments bearing in mind the kickoff time will at 19:00 hours and that suits them. “As a coach, my team talk is already done. All we have to do is to look at our opponent and understand, and as Gambians we have the opportunity to make our entire country proud and happy. We have a bit of time against Wednesday”.

He said the medical team is working very hard to ensure the boys recover well on the little knocks received during the course of the tournament which is normal and not worrying.

“It is a derby, saying that we are playing against Senegal alone is enough to sharpen their minds and make sure the boys are focused to go out and deliver”, he said.

The team will continue its training sessions with players, officials and technicians all focused and determined to continue their campaign to defend the trophy with a clear mind.
