The curtain has finally drawn on the GFF Women’s League Div Two after the battle for the championship title became decided on Sunday June 30.
It was Kintehs FC and Greater Tomorrow chasing for top spot and the coronation cash reward as any slip up would avail Brikama United the opportunity to win the title.
Kintehs recorded their two goals within two minutes of the apart with their opener that came in the 13th minute of play through Natalia Badjie who capitalized on a counter attack to surpass the defender and made a great finish. A similar counter attack from the center half saw Amie K. Njie scored the second for Kintehs FC in the quarter hour mark of play.
A tired Greater Tomorrow side were in shambles when Kintehs’ Fatou Bojang pounced to grab her hatrick with goals in the 27th, 77th and 81st minutes respectively to complete a comprehensive 5-0 win.
Speaking to the Federation in house medium head coach Kawsu Drammeh of Kintehs FC expressed delight in winning the league with pressure from their contenders Brikama United. He noted that this is his first managerial career as head coach and winning it was a perfect start. He said the team’s focus will now be on their promotion to the first division and looking forward to achieve great things in League One.
Joseph Mendy, head coach for Greater Tomorrow said he is shocked by the amount of goals conceded. He said this could be as a result of fatigue because his girls are school going who also represent their schools and recently they’ve played 7 games within 12 days from schools to other tournaments and regions. He rated the league as interesting and thanked the GFF for empowering women and girls through football.
Kintehs FC were coronated winners and presented a trophy and a D100,000 cash prize and gold medals while Brikama United as runners up were given a consolation prize of D50,000.
GFF 3rd Vice President Gen. Lang Tombong Tamba and Executive Committee members Sainabou Cham and Maimuna Kanteh all graced the occasion.
Both teams were accompanied by their teeming fans and lovers of women’s football.
