KGH Sports Academy of Lamin and Brikama’s Greater Tomorrow are on course to secure promotion to the second division.
The former has established a four-point lead at the top of Group A at the halfway stage in the West Coast Regional Football Association (WCRFA) third division league, while the former has a two points advantage in Group B.
The league will now take a break and action will resume for the second round. At the end of the 24-team regular season in the country’s most populous region, the two top ranked sides from each of the groups will compete in the championship playoffs to determine the overall champion. The regional champion will represent West Coast in the three-team national triangular that will pit them against the champions of Banjul and Kanifing for promotion to the second tier.
Each team plays the other just once and having played six matches, KGH Sports has accumulated 16 points, having won five and drawn one, scoring 10 goals in the process and conceding five times. Berewuleng FC of Brikama is occupying second spot with 12 points, while Busumbala Sanjondin, Folonko Real Estate, Sukuta United and Tumbul FC are all locked on nine points with goal difference separating them in that order.
Gambinos Stars of Mandinarin and Marakisa FC are on eight points, with Sifoe United has six and Nema United with five. Management Development Institute (MDI) FC, that replated the University of The Gambia (UTG) in the league, and Black & White FC sit at the base of the group with three and two points respectively.
In Group B, Greater Tomorrow has a lesser lead with 14 points, two more than second place Kunkujang Friends, while 2J Torrellers FC are third on 10 points with Lamin United, Sibanor United FC, and Jalambang United all on nine points. The Gambia Civil Aviation Authority/Banjul International Airport (acronymized GCAA/BIA) FC and Sanyang United are both on eight points, Misera United has six points and Universal FA on five. Brufut United and Soccer Boys FA are at the base of the log with four and three points respectively.
