FIFA President Gianni Infantino has dispatched a message of condolence on the passing of late Gambia Football Association President Mr George Furmuz Gomez (Uncle George) which sad event occurred on Tuesday 1st September, 2020.

Writing through the President of the GFF Lamin Kaba Bajo, the FIFA Boss writes “I would like to express my sincerest and heartfelt condolences on the passing of the former President of The Gambia Football Federation, George F. Gomez. Words seem inadequate to express the sadness we feel for this loss“. Infantino chronicled the late Uncle George as a dedicated and outstanding football administrator who came to Association football from 1978 to 1982 as Executive Committee Member of the then GFA with utmost “commitment and dedication” to the development of sport and the promotion of its values in the Gambia which will not be forgotten.

Former player and also Interim National Football Coach of the Scorpions, former Executive Secretary and Executive Director of The Gambia National Olympic Committee, Chef de mission in many Olympic Games, exemplary sports administrator, his legacy and trajectory, in particularly his leadership and his engagement for development of youth and sports, will be remembered, and he will be truly missed“.

The FIFA Boss concludes to extend his deepest condolences through his counterpart Lamin Kaba Bajo to the family and friends of late George F Gomez. “On behalf of FIFA and the international football community, I wish to extend our deepest condolences to The Gambia Football Federation, and most importantly, to his family, friends and loved ones. Our thoughts are with all of you“.

Meanwhile, the body of the late football guru will be laid to rest on Saturday 5th September, 2020.
