The Gambia Football Federation has received with shock and disbelief news of the passing of two young Gambian youths Sise Saweneh of GRTS and Papa Touray of Churchill’s Town in a fatal car accident while driving to Soma.

The two amongst five other youths were on their way to the final of the GFF Regional Second Division Championships been staged between Wagadu FC of URR and Jarra West in Jarra Soma LRR.

The GFF is deeply saddened by the loss of these great souls of the land hence their immense contribution towards Gambian football.

Having pioneered the Serahuli community football tournament (Soninkara) ,Sise and Papa have proven to be embodiments of unity amongst youths through football for their initiative of the annual football tournament which yielded fruits hence the cradle of Wagadu FC as Champions of URR in Regional 3rd Qualifiers.

We are further speechless after missing one of a few female sports journalists in Sise Saweneh of GRTS whose ardent love for football is beyond limit. She has been a good stakeholder and partner at all GFF programs and events and her contribution to the growth and development of the beautiful game cannot be underestimated. Sise recently has been regular at Football House in Kanifing during our World Cup and Afcon Qualifier campaigns where she promises to continue her selfless assistance in the many ways she is known for in our quest to qualify at both categories.

Papa Touray just like his female colleague is another personification of grassroots football. Papa’s love, passion and dedication to youth matters has metamorphosed his thinking to bring youths together through football and as always taking the GFF as an advisory body. He has supported the Federation’s plans and ideas at all levels since the assumption of the Kaba regime in 2014

While we mourn endlessly the irreparable loss of our two young and dynamic partners in football, we pay for their souls to rest in Peace while we continue to remember them in our daily prayers. Our condolences further goes to the Sports Journalists Association of the Gambia (SJAG) for the difficult period the Association is enduring.
May the departed souls rests in Peace
