GFF to Co-ordinate Regional Football Championship

As part of activities marking The Gambia’s 52nd anniversary of nationhood, the Gambia Football Federation has been tasked by the Ministry of Youth and Sports through the National Sports Council to preside over a Regional Independence Football Championship.

The championship will bring together all regional football teams to compete on elimination bases and thus the Knock Out balloting was conducted on Wednesday 15th February at the National Sports Council Offices at the Independence Stadium. North Bank Region ( NBR ) has been paired with Central River Region ( CRR ), Upper River Region ( URR ) meets Lower River Region ( LRR ) and Kanifing Municipality ( KM ) to face off West Coast Region ( WCR ) while Banjul got a bye and thus stands alone to wait for her semi final opponent from URR vs LRR fixture.

Matches kick off on Thursday 16th February in Banjul ( NBR vs CRR ), Brikama ( URR vs LRR ) and Sere Kunda East ( KM vs WCR ). Semi finals will be played on Friday 17th February-Winner 1 VS Winner 3 and Winner 2 takes on Banjul. The final will be played on Sunday 19th February at the Sere Kunda East mini stadium.

According to the coordinators of the championship, the winner will pocket D40,000:00 and a giant trophy. Already a preparatory money of D10,000:00 has been disbursed to each of the participating regions.
