The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) yesterday signed three contracts with ES Technology and Construction for the rehabilitation of three mini stadiums as part of its ongoing infrastructural development projects as enshrined in the National Football Development Plan.
The works include the installation of a new artificial playing field for the King George V (KGV) Mini Stadium in Banjul, as well as the rehabilitation of the Serrekunda East and Manjai Mini Stadiums. The first vice president, Mr. Bakary K. Jammeh, who is also the FIFA Projects Manager at Football House, presided over the signing ceremony.
“This is the formality of starting the work in earnest and I must thank our consultant, GAP Consultants for the thorough and strict process in reaching to this level. We at GFF believe there should be standard playing grounds throughout the country to be able to play decent football and as such we have decided to use some of the support from FIFA to improve on our infrastructure because we are significantly challenged with playing fields,” Jammeh remarked.
He informed the contractors of the Executive Committee’s desire to have the works completed on time. “We will also endeavor to meet up the initial advance payments and all obligations due to you as stipulated in the contract.”
Mr. Jammeh, who is also the Chairman of the GFF Finance Committee, urged the contractors to first lay the turf in Banjul while working on the two other grounds in order to speed up the work. He assured the stakeholders of the GFF’s strict adherence to FIFA standards in ensuring accountability and transparency.
Mr. Joseph E. Sarre Principal Architect of GAP Consulting Firm thanked the GFF for the trust and confidence reposed on him as consultant for the projects. “The assignment is huge and much more a challenge but we also prioritize to work much harder to ensure the delivery on time,” he said, assuring Football House of the contractor’s ability in the works assigned to them having had working relationship with them in the past. “I have worked with the contractors and know their capabilities,” he remarked.
The signing ceremony was also attended by GFF Finance Director Mr. Kemo Ceesay.
