The President of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF), Mr. Lamin Kaba Bajo, has congratulated Scorpions defender Bubacarr Sanneh on his recent move to Turkey.
Former Real de Banjul protégé Sanneh, 24, at the weekend signed for Turkish top flight side Goztepe on a season long loan from Belgian giants Anderlecht.
Mr. Bajo while speaking to www.gambiaff.org, said Sanneh’s latest move will offer him more playing time at a top level club in one of the most competitive leagues in Europe. He added that as a young player, it will help him in his development and thus having a positive impact on the National Team.
“When you look at the current trend, our players are signing for big clubs across Europe and this is going to make the National Team more competitive and offer the coach more options to choose from. These are young players who all have the potential to make a positive impact on the history of Gambian football,” Mr. Bajo said.
“While I congratulate Bubacarr Sanneh on this move, I hope that even more of our players will sign for top clubs in Europe. When you look at the gap in the National Team, it is narrowing. We sent the team to a two-week training camp in Morocco in June and a lot of progress has been made and it is safe to say that we are on the right track.”
Sanneh first went to Europe when he joined Danish side AC Horsens ahead of the 2014/15 season before moving to FC Midtjylland whom he helped to the Danish Super League title. He joined Anderlecht in a big money move last season but found playing time hard to come by.
“Goztepe have completed the signing of Bubacarr Sanneh from Anderlecht on a one-year loan deal. We welcome him to Goztepe and wish him success,” Goztepe said on its official website.
