The Gambia Football Federation has kicked off a CAF D’ License Coaching Course for School PE Teachers and Coaches in GFF Women’s League. The Week long induction training is earmarked for Women Coaches to equip them with the requisite skills in Coaching. The training is a CAF Women’s Seven (7) Aside training program and kicked off on Monday 13th January 2020 at the National Technical Training Center in Yundum.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the General Secretary Lamin M. Jassey emphasized on the GFF Executive’s commitment to the growth and development of Women’s football in the Gambia. Jassey said Women’s football is at the heart of the football leadership’s core mandate “and as such, the GFF is very committed to taking this Course very seriously and we will support it at all levels”.  He said the Gambia is one of the Sixteen countries in Africa that is benefiting from the training program being the first time in Africa. ” This shows that the GFF is doing something that CAF, UEFA and FIFA is recognizing”.

Technical Director Sang John Ndong also hailed the Federation for the support garnered to Women’s Football. ” The GFF is investing a lot in training human resource to help develop football in the country and that also involves Women’s football”. TD Ndong said effective development can be attained through the use of the bottom- top approach where Lower Basic and the Grassroots could be exploited. “If the country is to produce other world stars, it has to start from you that are directly dealing with the young ones as a foundation”, the former Scorpions gaffer noted. He challenged the participants to make best use of the opportunity while he envisages to see the participants to levels ‘B’ and ‘A’ license.

German-Gambia Women’s Football Project Coordinator Monika Staab expressed gratitude and delight in the implementation of the program. As Course facilitator, she thanked GFF President Lamin Kaba Bajo for the undiluted support extended to Women’s football. She said Mr Bajo is a keen supporter to the Women’s game. “The GFF is doing a wonderful job to see women’s football grow. This can be seen in both the Women’s National leagues and recently the U-20 and National team’s engagement at continental and global level”.  She thanked her colleagues Women’s Football Coordinator Sainey Sissoho and Assistant Women’s Football Coordinator Veronic Malack for doing a wonderful job. “Both Sainey and Veronic would be able to fulfill the mission when i leave for Germany at the end of the period”, she noted.

Twenty participants from selected schools and clubs will receive certificates at the end of the week long training program that will cap off on Sunday, 19th January, 2020.
