The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) on Monday February 11th kicked off a Six-Month Pilot Project for Grassroots Football Development for Girls at the KG5 Mini Stadium in Banjul. One Hundred and Fifty (150) girls were selected across Six (6) Lower Basic Schools in the capital city to join in the program, that is conceived to inculcate the basic skills and techniques of football in them.
In her opening remarks, the Director of The Gambia-German Football Development Program, Monika Staab said she is very impressed and personate about the kids for what she reckoned as becoming good footballers in future. She thanked the GFF, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) and sponsors Petro Gas for the support in making the program a reality.
GFF President Lamin Kaba Bajo said the Federation attaches significant importance to women and grassroots football development. Mr Bajo encouraged the girls to take their trainings seriously as football can help them into becoming responsible people in future. He thanked the MoBSE for the partnership while also congratulating Petro Gas for partnering with the activities of the GFF.
Speaking on behalf of MoBSE, Mr Musa Mendy a senior official of the Education Ministry thanked the GFF for been the first and only Association/Federation to approach MoBSE with such an initiative, adding that the Ministry is happy to associate itself with the initiative.
The event was attended by members of GFF Executive, Women Football Committee members, officials of Petrol Gas, technical and regional coaches of the GFF.
