In its quest to promote and develop women’s football from the grassroots, The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) will on Sunday 11th July, 2021, launch a FIFA funded Girls U-17 football league development programme at the Jarra Soma Mini Stadium in the Lower River Region (LRR).

The opening ceremony will be preceded by the opening game of the competition between Hart FC of LRR and Farafenni of the North Bank Region (NBR).

The three-month league will include 14 teams from across four regions in LRR, NBR, Upper River Region (URR), and Central River Region (CRR). It will be lunched by the President of the GFF Mr. Lamin Kabba Bajo, and members of the Executive Committee, as well as officials of the Women’s Football Association, Women’s Football Committee, the Technical Department of the Federation and the Regional Football Association members amongst others.

The teams will be drawn in two groups of seven teams each with the teams meeting in a round robin format with the teams finishing top of each group meeting each other in the finals in September to determine the champions.

Speaking with the GFF’s Media Department, Sainey Sissoho M’boge, the Women’s Football Coordinator at Football House, said a similar programme will be held for the Greater Banjul Area that will bring together teams from Banjul, Kanifing and West Coast Regions.
