The President of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) Mr. Lamin Kaba Bajo, today bade farewell for ex-Gambia women’s footballers who are embarking on a one-week flurry of football activities in Berlin, Germany.

The football program, dubbed ‘Discover Football’, is used by the Berlin-based NGO to use the sport as a tool to empower women and work against discrimination. Together with the German Interior Ministry, the group is hosting a delegation of a dozen Gambian ex-women stars, coaches and administrators as well as other nationalities in the German capital in the form of conferences, coaching course and football matches.

The event, in the past, has seen players, coaches and activists discuss how women’s football can be used to fight for women’s rights in the area. The delegation’s trip is facilitated by Football House, covering its entire financial and logistical commitments.

Addressing the team at Football House this morning, Mr. Bajo said despite the short notice, he didn’t take the program lightly and thus his administration’s decision to support the crusade, describing it as a historic moment. He challenged the team to ensure that they participate in every event by either engaging in the activities or ask questions to enhance their knowledge of the game.

“Go and make a difference so that The Gambia will be invited again. Interact and exchange contacts with colleagues and collaborate to open opportunities,” Mr. Bajo told the team.

The General Secretary Mr. Lamin M. Jassey thanked the ExCo for supporting the team as well as the Women’s Football Unit of the GFF for the amount of work put in the process. He assured them of the Secretariat’s administrative support at all times.

Sainabou Cham, President of the Women’s Football Association and a participant thanked the President and the ExCo for the support, while Veronic Aisha Malack the Assistant Women’s Football Coordinator at the GFF described the event as a golden opportunity for the participants.
